Haley
A beagle, basenji mix was born in Oct of 2005. Tan and white with
Pretty light brown eyes. Approximately 25 pounds. Haley is quite
active girl who is aware of everything around her. She loves to jump
up and peek into the other pens just yo check everything out. Once
she is out of the kennels, she turns into quite the attention
seeker, wanting to be close to her people. Haley is leash trained
and loves to go for walks in the woods. She would be excellent at
obedience.

Pasqual
Just one year old this
poor boy was given up by his elderly owner along with his friend
Baby Girl when she could no longer care for him. He came to us with
a eye infection that left him blind in one eye. We would love to see
him and Baby Girl adopted together.

Jackie
Jackie was born in Jan of
2007. She is a sweet playful puppy. She is a Walking tree hound
great Pyrenees mix. She weighs about 45 pounds. She is very eager to
please and a gentle girl. She is good with cats other dogs and kids.

Burke County Friends for Animals is a
local grassroots organization incorporated in March of 1997. A
dream was for a Adoption Shelter that would save the lives of
adoptable animals by providing care, housing and adoption services
for the animals of Burke County. Another goal was to provide
humane education for the residents of Burke. The Adoption
Center, after much planning and hard work by many dedicated
volunteers and generous benefactors, became a reality in November of
2003. Much has been accomplished in only 10 years but there is
still much to do. Numbers of dogs turned into the Animal Control has
been decreasing and the number of adoptions increasing. To
date over 10,000 animals have been adopted through the Friends of
Animals. We are looking forward to the day when no adoptable animal
will have to be euthanized in Burke County. |

Adoption Center October 2006
All animals are cared for in
the adoption facility at
417 Kirksey Drive (between the National
Guard Armory and
the Burke County Animal Control office). The
state of the art facility is the largest no-kill shelter in Western
North Carolina
and will serve the community for generations to come.
Over 9,500 lives have already been saved.

The Adoption Center management work closely with city and
county animal control to end cruelty to animals in Burke County and
they are a 501c3 tax exempt organization.
All of the donations, including
Membership fees are tax deductible.
BCFFA makes a lifetime commitment to each animal accepted into our
care. None are ever put down except for health or safety reasons.
The vehicle to the left transports animals from the Burke County
Animal Control building to the Adoption Center where they are
examined by a veterinarian, neutered and given needed vaccinations.
It also takes animals to Petsmart at least 4 days a month for
adoptions. Photo on the left is the vehicle used for the this
purpose. Below is pictured the cruelty investigator Ed Davis and
his
vehicle used for his investigations. |
